Emotional Education : CBD
The past couple years have been hard on all of us! If you are feeling easily "triggered" right now- you are not alone! -Eryn Jones
A LITTLE LESSON ON TRAUMA:
When something comes along that we cannot make sense of, and that we have no schema for, our brain tends to grasp onto old coping habits that got us through other hard times. Sometimes that’s acting “hard” because we needed to develop a thick shell to survive, sometimes it’s getting lost in all the research and trying to make sense of the details because control helped us make it through, sometimes it’s checking out, napping, or getting off the socials because escaping served us well in the past. These are all variations of Fight/ Flight/ Freeze.
None of these coping habits are new- we’ve always had them, but they may be exacerbated in times of struggle or more stress.
If we find ourselves in old worry-ruts, we can be gentle with ourselves knowing that everyone else is doing the same- just in different ways. The coping is different, but the underlying unease is the same. And guess what? ALLFEELINGSAREOK!
Feelings are important and processing them moves us along in the Grief Cycle- something we all must go through to process a trauma. However, the body must feel safe to process feelings to move forward. If we keep getting new negative feelings, but don't feel safe enough to process them, we stay Stuck! This is where CBD comes in...
Multiple studies on both animals and humans show that the CBD compound has anxiolytic effects- lowers heart rate, calms CNS, helps bring balance to the body during times of stress. And the cool thing is that these studies are not showing side effects. Safety! CBD helps us because it's able to help our bodies ability to calm itself down, without being invasive or intrusive with side effects!
Therefore, CBD is HUGE for helping our bodies feel physically SAFE enough to process grief- go through all the emotions, feel, and move FORWARD!
HOW TO USE CBD FOR EMOTIONS:
Place desired mg under tongue and hold for 30+ seconds or on the back of the ears behind the mastoid bone (good place to get it into the body- especially for younger loves!)
Rub the muscle balm over tense areas- these are places where negative emotions are most likely "stuck" in the body! CBD can help release the tension of stuck emotions!
Pair CBD with a good counselor, finding friends to vent and chat with about what is going on, or before you meditate!
