Emotional Education : Back to School

Back to School is here, can you believe it?! I just this week sent my oldest to High School! High School!! I'm gonna need emotional support oils for a different reason this week, but let's chat about helping our kiddos!

B2S can be hard on all of us- parents, homeschoolers, kids going to school for the first time, kids with special needs, everybody- all groups feel the transitions feels! -Eryn Jones

HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR HELPING OUR KIDS WITH THIS NEW BACK TO SCHOOL SEASON:

  • Cedarwood, Lavender, Vetiver, Frankincense, and Black Pepper EOs are high in sesquiterpenes, which are good for Focus and can help with trauma. These are great just inside the collar for kids in school or diffusing if you are a homeschooling. These oils are also great for helping with transitions and adjusting to schedules.

  • For after school, older kids may need alerting oils to get them through the evening (Wintergreen, Rosemary, Thieves, think "spicy" oils) and younger kids may need help calming down after a hard day (think Citrus oils or any of the emotional support oils that help calm). Really it's up to each child as to what they need so I always ask their preference

  • Our Sensory Kiddos need extra B2S help, and I've created this simple booklet full of ideas of how to use your oils and some activities that can help while incorporating your kiddo's fav oils: https://issuu.com/erynejones/docs/sensory_and_yl

  • A couple years ago, I began using Clarity for my son (who has the hardest time with B2S!) in the afternoons. Carolyn Mein's book Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils states that Clarity can be great for Emotional Stress! Clarity is a great blend of right brain AND left brain stimulating oils and we rub it behind our ears when we feel overwhelmed to promote more whole brain integration

  • Would love to hear your suggestions on what has helped your child with the back to school transition below!
